“The Frightened Bird” is an ancient Chinese idiom, which means that a bird once frightened by a bow and arrow can easily be frightened again. This is a metaphor used to describe people who are frightened when they encounter a little rumor. With the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in 2020, lockdowns have been implemented around the world. People fall into a huge panic. This epidemic has been widely reported on the Internet and television. People become very sensitive and suspicious of each other, just like “The Frightened Bird”. When I walk down the street or sit on the subway, I will guess whether the people around me are infected with the virus, and the sound of people coughing around me can put me on the verge of a breakdown. The relationship between people often have an undertones of aggressivit. Thus came the idea of this installation project. I try to visualize my inner tension in this project, and force people to face up to the mental pressure brought by the epidemic again.
